Hello Payara team,
I have been a happy user of your application server since version 4.
Unfortunately my clients’ app I develop are not mission-critical and they do not want to buy the enterprise version.
I have noticed that in the past couple of weeks some changes were made on the source code, in particular some functionality have been removed and made them “enterprise only”. Production domain template is no longer in the source code.
Personally it is not a big deal since I learn how to create one, but my question is: do I need to worry about functionalities being removed?
And another question: do I need to prepare my clients for the future buying of enterprise version?
Thanks for your time and all your work.
Davide
Thanks Davide! We understand that some clients may not fully appreciate the necessity for paying for Payara Enterprise. However, as you know, Payara Server Community is our ‘testbed’ designed to give developers a platform for experimenting, developing and prototyping.
Payara Server Enterprise is our flagship, fully supported server that we, as a business, recommend for production. Naturally, as a production-optimized server, there will be technical differences between it and Payara Server Community, both now and in the future. So if your customers require stability, our recommendation would be to encourage them to consider investing in their infrastructure as Payara Server Enterprise goes beyond just the server.
However, if they insist on using Community Edition, then we cannot guarantee features in any way, both now and in the future.
Hope this helps and clarifies things a bit more!
thanks,
Dominika @ Payara Community Team
